TEN low cost homes are to be built in Pershore, now Wychavon District Council has passed the plans.

They are to be built on the St Agatha's Hall site in Head Street. The hall, which belongs to Pershore Town Council, was sold to raise money for the new council offices in the High Street - formerly the town's post office. Pershore town and district councillor, John Grantham said: "I am very pleased indeed that these much- needed flats are being built.

The other great news is that the council is to get more than £20,000 from the developers in lieu of green space, which I hope will go towards the cost of a skate park for Pershore's young people."

Wychavon's planning officer, Gavin Greenhow said: "The development will consist of two blocks of five two bedroom flats. The 106 agreement that the developers sign enables us to receive about £2,700 per home."

St Agatha's Hall started off as a mission hall, then in 1974 it became Wychavon's council offices.

When the new civic centre was built in Station Road in 1991 Wychavon District Council sold St Agatha's to the town council. Belle House in the High Street was also sold by the town council to cover the cost of Pershore's Town Hall.
