TRAINEE builders from a Worcester college enjoyed an awards ceremony to celebrate the success of their vocational course.
The Student Builder Project, funded by the Learning Skills Council, gives 12 pupils from Worcestershire the opportunity to gain on-site work experience in the building trade.
Teenagers from Worcester College of Technology spend two days a week with qualified tradesmen and two days in the classroom studying for a Building Craft Occupations Foundation Award.
The Deansway college's principal, Chris Morecroft, was the guest speaker during the ceremony, hosted by Nexus (Midlands) Housing Association.
Mr Morecroft awarded each of last year's students their certificate as well as presenting new trainees with their construction kit for forthcoming work experience.
"The scheme offers pupils enhanced employment opportunities as well as a recognised qualification for their skills," he said.
"Previous students have achieved great success through Student Builder and have been offered apprenticeships or other employment in the construction industry."
The Student Builder Project has a range of sponsors including West Mercia Housing Group and Worcester Community Housing and Construction Industry Training Board.
The new course begins this month and ends in April 2005.
