A SPORTY couple are to take up two very different challenges - on four and two wheels.
While Steve Carter tackles mountainous terrain for a charity cycle ride, his wife, Simone, has gone for an altogether more unusual challenge, for cerebral palsy charity SCOPE.
Offmore Road resident Simone said: "I have agreed to get myself sponsored by roller-skating around Lake Vyrnwy in Wales, which is about 11 miles. Not bad if you can rollerskate - but I can't."
The 33-year-old clerical assistant added: "I wanted to raise money for SCOPE and Steve and I were looking for something different. I will certainly be able to roller-skate by the end of the challenge."
Mr Carter is taking up another two-wheeled task this year when he cycles the Swiss Alps, which he hopes will top last year's Pyrenees trek, which netted SCOPE £2,700.
The 33-year-old toolmaker said: "I am really looking forward to it. It is a lot bigger than the Pyrenees so it is going to be more of a challenge.
"I go riding a couple of nights a week and it is worth nine months of hurt to donate so much money to such a good cause."
The couple are looking for help to complete the challenges through sponsorship and a pair of skates which can withstand the lengthy trek.
Arty Simone is also looking for help in publishing a collection of cartoons, again to raise money for SCOPE.
Raffle prizes for a fund raising disco and karaoke evening at the Briars Hotel in Habberley Road, Kidderminster next Friday are also being sought by the couple.
