I WAS surprised to read the letters from drivers complaining about the speed-check cameras.
As a law abiding driver I was at first pleased and surprised to read about the cameras.
But they really aren't meant to work - that's why they are brightly painted and only catch drivers going far above the maximum speed limit.
Sadly, the police continue to regard traffic law enforcement as a low priority. A letter you published recently illustrated this - a correspondent praised the wonderful way police had cared for someone bereaved in a road accident.
It would have been much better to have prevented the accident in the first place! But the police are too busy to do that.
Instead they provide reassurance - police officers strolling around the town, in pairs enjoying the weather and chatting to their friends. It makes me sick.
