SWIMMING: Speedy swimmer Amy Smith showed her class in the freestyle events at the Midland District Youth Championships.
The Midlands is the largest of five national regions and attracts many top swimmers, which makes the districts in Coventry a prestigious event.
Smith won the 50 metre and 200m freestyle over the Bank Holiday weekend, not just in her 16 to 17-year-old section but in all age groups.
The Wyre Forest Swimming Club star also won the 100m but was second over all ages as she was beaten on time by an older girl.
Smith, of Kidderminster, then triumphed in the skins event for the top eight swimmers over 50m, clocking 27 seconds.
Having won her age group in 26.91, she swam consistently to make the last two with the slowest dropping out at each stage.
Fifteen-year-olds Hannah Wear and Emma Levitt competed in the 16 to 17 age group as both improved their rankings.
Wear swam six races and reached the 400m individual medley final, while Levitt did well in the 50m freestyle.
Richard Carter, competing in the 17 to 18 age group although still just 16, tackled the 100m butterfly.
