TENNIS: Bewdley Ladies A have finished runners-up in Herefordshire and Worcestershire League Division One for the third year in a row.
The team needed to win their last match to clinch the title but were beaten by a strong Manor Park outfit from Malvern.
First couple Tracey Powell and Mandy Sylvester lost only their second rubber since they teamed up a year ago.
Bewdley had given themselves a chance of winning the title by becoming the only team for several years to beat Barnt Green A, the reigning champions.
Dawn Gumbley, Penny Marchant, Lesley Reeve Parker and Alison Rosoman also make up the A squad who have made a strong start to the summer campaign with a winning draw over arch rivals Stourbridge A.
The full results of Bewdley's 15 teams who competed in the county league are still being awaited.
In the Indoor Winter League at Malvern, Bewdley Wanderers were second in the mixed doubles and the ladies came third out of 14 teams.
And the summer campaign began with the traditional social mix-in doubles with the trophy presented to winners, club coach Powell and Lucy Odell, by president Lily Doley.
They defeated Chris Lloyd and Mo Griffin in the final, while losing semi-finalists were Terry Round with Jenny Raine and Clayton Edge with Liz Page.
