IT'S been a memorable week for Badsey Rangers Under-14s after a Cheltenham Youth League first title triumph and League Cup success.
The youngsters overcame Charlton Rovers Blues 4-2 to clinch the championship and then went one goal better at Whaddon Road last Sunday to complete a fabulous double.
Victory was essential if Rangers were to leapfrog Rovers and Jamie Clarke gave them the perfect start with an early goal after good work from Ben Holland and George Lavis.
As Charlton chased an equaliser, they were caught out at the back and Clarke made it 2-0 after Owen Powell and headed down Dane Aldington's free-kick.
Aldington then banged in a superb third deep into stoppage time that entered the net via crossbar and goalkeeper.
The visitors pushed four men up front after the interval but it was Badsey who scored again when Stefan Ellis's centre was converted by Powell.
Two goals in as many minutes lifted Charlton spirits but it was too late to half Badsey's title charge.
It took Lavis just 40 seconds to breach the Southside rearguard last Sunday and give Rangers a perfect final fillip.
It was 2-0 ten minutes later when Powell raced on to a pass from James Hinsley to double the lead.
Southside halved the deficit but it was soon 3-1 courtesy of Clarke's neat finish prior to half-time.
A second half penalty again brought Southside back into contention but late strikes from Aldington and Holland secured the silverware for Rangers.
