VALE organisations are being urged to don their 70s gear aboard their own float in the Evesham carnival and raise money for a charity of their choice.
Evesham Round Table's new chairman and president are hoping more groups will come forward in the run up to the carnival to make this year's event a huge success.
Chairman Iain Pollard and president George Scott said they hoped the carnival would kick-start a successful year of fundraising for charity while having as much fun as possible.
Inspired by the film remake of Starsky and Hutch, the theme to this year's carnival will be 1970s television, film and music and organisers are expecting a glittering array of retro floats.
Carnival chairman Andrew Laver said only four or five groups have confirmed they will have a float in the carnival but he hopes to have the usual 14 or 15 by carnival day on Saturday, May 29.
He said all the money collected by floats on the day is added up and divided equally between the groups, who in previous years have come away with £200 to £300.
"It's really about taking part and having a good time on the day," he said.
The carnival will be leaving Crown Meadow at 2pm and other entertainment like legendary motor Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, marching bands and majorettes will be there on the day.
The Evesham Round Table can provide the lorries for floats and anyone interested in taking part in the carnival should contact Andrew Laver on 01386 765777.
