A PERSHORE town councillor is calling for people to campaign for a link road from the Keytech technology park on Pershore trading estate to the new Wyre Piddle bypass.
Councillor Val Wood fears that until the "missing link" is built in Pershore lorries will continue to thunder through the town. "Heavy traffic coming through Station Road and through Pershore itself will be reduced if we can implement the missing link that was part of the original plan for the bypass," she said.
"The bypass was built to solve the problem of heavy traffic driving through Wyre Piddle and Pershore but now it is all going past Pershore High School. Funding needs to be found to complete this scheme."
Maggie Clark of Worcestershire County Council's highways department said she understood the public support for the scheme and was continuing to lobby for funding. "Unfortunately, it is very difficult to attract funding for a link that would be very expensive, despite being very short. If we could get our mitts on the money we would build the western link. At the moment there is no window of opportunity for making a successful bid for the link but as soon as there is we will be in there." She added that the estimated cost of the link was so high because it would need to cross a railway line and would need a new bridge to be built.
