FOLLOWING last week's heavy rain, Evesham Row-ing Club was forced to cancel the town's annual Regatta on safety grounds.
The decision, taken at noon last Friday, was a great disappointment to the 500 crews that had entered. However, with water more than two feet above the club's landing stage, there was little option.
Provisional planning for a re-scheduled event early in September is already un-der way. This would result in a hectic month of river activity hosted by the Rowing Club.
The regatta would be followed in quick succession by a Dragon Boat Race in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust on September 12, canoe racing organised by Fladbury Canoe Club (September 26) and the October 2 Junior Head - a long distance rowing race.
