Hopesgate 2 Church Stretton 3
CHURCH Stretton warmed up for their big Shropshire Challenge Cup final with a good performance in their final Shropshire County Premier Division match of the season at Hopesgate. They went behind in the early stages but fought back to net the winner five minutes from time.
The visitors started brightly and had created a number of chances before opening the scoring midway through the half. Tommy Johnson and Dean Richards completed a neat one-two before the former calmly slotted the ball home from 18 yards.
They sat back on the lead with the result that Hopesgate were able to push forward and notch an equaliser. Stretton increased the tempo at the beginning of the second half but still went behind. The home centre forward drove home from 10 yards after latching on to a rebound.
The visitors refused to panic and equalised through substitute, Matt Tudor. He let fly from 20 yards and the ball went in off the woodwork.
Another substitute, Ross Howells bagged the winner with a glancing header from a corner to secure the points.
