THE road safety concerns of a pensioner have finally been quashed, thanks to a much sought after pedestrian crossing.
Stanley Woolley (pictured) has waited more then two years for the pedestrian crossing to be put in place outside the Co-op at the junction of Ombersley Road and Northwick Road.
When Mr Woolley appeared in the Evening News in April last year, he said he was worried someone would be knocked over and killed if a crossing was not put into place, as a lot of people including pensioners and young children crossed over the road.
The pensioner from Northwick Walk said he was shocked when he saw the crossing finally working earlier this week.
"We should be thankful that nobody has been seriously injured," he said.
"The neighbours are very pleased about the crossing."
Mr Woolley contacted his local councillors, as part of his campaign for the new crossing.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesman said the council was pleased it had switched the crossing on.
"The new crossing is designed to make life easier, and safer, for pedestrians needing to cross the busy Ombersley Road," he said.
"We hope that schoolchildren and the elderly will benefit in particular."
