PEOPLE are being encouraged to resort to pedal power in Hereford as the local authority offers free adult cycle training in the city.
The sessions, taken by an experienced instructor, usually cost £20 for one-and-a-half hours, but Herefordshire Council is offering them free for anyone over the age of 18 living or working in the city.
Training sessions are run on a one-to-one basis and tailored to individual needs and will focus on choosing the best routes, bike security and even guidance on buying a bike.
"We want to encourage as many people as possible to leave their cars at home and commute around the city by bicycle but we also want to make sure they do it safely," said Janette Barratt, green transport promotions officer.
"The free sessions will provide people with a host of useful tips from riding safety to how to choose the right bike.
"Reducing the huge volume of cars on our roads will help keep our county green and congestion free."
Places are limited so people should book early to avoid disappointment by contacting Fishonabike ACT Cycle training and support services on 07771 576 863.
