WYCHAVON District Council is banking on success after being nominated for a national award.

The council has entered the PricewaterhouseCoopers Public Reporting and Accountability Awards.

Run by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, Wychavon is one of three finalists which could scoop the top prize in the heat for organisations whose turnover is less than £50m.

The award recognises innovative ways in which public sector agencies report their finances.

Wychavon's publications have included the chocolate box-style council tax leaflets, the statements of accounts called Money Talks and the annual report - Looking Up.

"Our residents have told us they want to know how we spend their money," said head of financial services, Sonia Rees.

"So we make the extra effort to produce innovative publications to explain an often complex subject in an easy-to-read and exciting way.

"We are delighted to have come so far in these exclusive awards and are looking forward to finding out the final result in June."

The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 15, in Brighton.
