Once capped by England U-20s and also in the national youth sides, the Birmingham-born midfielder has had a turbulent 2003-04 season.

Murray signed for Harriers on an 18-month contract in January 2004 following a brief loan spell of three games earlier in the season.

But his temporary move was cut short when the attacking player checked into a clinic with a drinking problem.

When Murray recovered, he was released by Derby, who he had been with since the age of 12, and played games at non-league Solihull, Burton in the Conference and then Notts County in Division Two.

It has been a downward spiral for the energetic and tenacious player with an eye for goal after 32 games in the Premiership for Derby, many while still a teenager.

Murray also enjoyed a great loan spell at Mansfield when they were promoted from Division Three, scoring seven goals, and also trained with England U-21s.

Harriers beat off competition from various other clubs to clinch the signing of a player who is bidding to rebuild his career.
