THE Broad Acres Bank Holiday Monday open starts this week's results.

Fished on the main lake, it was Bob Brown (Rover) who took a clear victory by pole fishing catmeat down the margins of peg 23 for 56-3-0. Ricky Keenan (Triplex) was second with 33-7-0; third, Steve Brelsforth (Triplex,) 23-6-0.

Torrential rain didn't stop the Northfield Starlet Veterans competing at Moorland Farm's Bank, Middle and Moors pools on Tuesday, May 4. Bill Drew (Bewdley) again showed his skills by pole fishing pellets at Bank peg 23 for a winning 69-9-0. Second placed Fred Austin (Oldbury) had 61-13-0 and Peter Taylor (Alvechurch) was third with 53-15-0

Astwood Fisheries' Bluebell pool open once again saw peg seven throw up the top weight, taken by Rob Francis (Spa MG) by fishing a cage feeder, loaded with pellets to take 47-4-0 of carp. Derek Clarke (Astwood) followed with 29-2-0; third, John Halfpenny (Astwood), 27-3-0.

Black country angler David James (Moorlands Mosella MG) began his weekly campaign at Moorlands Farm by taking the only ton-up catch of 108-0-0 with pole and pellets from Bank pool peg 24. Second was Ralph Baxter's (Gloucester) 77-6-0 and third, Eric Banner's (Edgbaston) 73-10-0.

Moorland Farm's Thursday costcutter open was held on the Meadow pool and James pushed up the top weight to 128-13-0 with pole and pellets from peg 46. Mark Tooze (Lifestyle) was second with 101-4-0, while third went to Gary Pickin (Moorlands) with 98-8-0.

The KH Veterans held their event at Elmbridge's Heron pool and it was Brian Hill (Stourport) who showed the way by pole fishing red luncheon meat up in the water at peg ten for 48-2-0. Alan Ryan (Worcester) followed with 34-4-0; third, Roy Dugmore (Northfield), 31-13-0.

On Friday, James made it three in a row when he topped the Moorlands Farm Meadow pool open with a mammoth carp catch of 186-6-0 taken with pole and pellets from peg 48. Paul Philmore (Moorlands) had 154-11-0 for second; third, Steve Harris (Strike), 117-12-0.

Saturday saw the General Environmental Services of Oxford Invitation open, held on Lower Broadheath's Willow pool. The expected good catches failed to show and Catshill's Gerry Rush (Carrs Paint) needed just one carp of 11 pounds, together with rudd taken with pole and caster from peg four, for a 19-14-0 total. Terry Peckham (Carrs Paint) had 13-7-0 of rudd for second place with third going to Chris Childs' (GES) 6-11-0.

At Broad Acres, the Main lake open saw Triplex members fill the top three places. In first place was Bill Glover, who pole fished casters down the margins of peg 19 for 43-11-0. Second was John Harris' 34-15-0; third, Steve Green's 20-10-0.

A close result was recorded at the Moorlands Farm Bank, Middle and Silver pools open. Leading the field was Neville Groves (Fosters VDE) who pole fished pellets down the margins of peg three on the Silver pool for 76-13-0. Mal Watson (DGL) just missed out with a second placed 76-8-0. Third was Steve Harris (Strike), taking 66-7-0.

Sunday's Moorlands Farm open again saw the Silver pool throw up the top catch from peg seven by Jason Neath (DGL) who poled chopped worms with casters down the margins for 91-12-0. Runner-up Neil Mc Kinnon (Shakespeare) had 86-10-0, with third going to Ian Whitehouse's (Mosella Strike) 82-11-0.

Astwood Fisheries' Smokey Joes Pool open went to Rob Francis (Spa MG) with a feeder and corn catch of 29-9-0 from peg 38. Trevor Hodges (Astwood) took 26-4-0 for second; third, Peter Bailey (Droitwich Angling Centre), 26-3-0.

It was nice to see a local club, Hanbury AC, ring me with a result from its first Bye contest fished at Astwood Fisheries' Buddleia pool. Taking top honours was Hanbury matchman Dave Wheeldon who waggler fished maggots to the island at peg 60 for a mixed catch of 10-9-0. Second was John Hartle with 7-2-0; third, Gerry Rush, 5-9-0.

The Broad Acres Top pool open produced a good result with Dave Green (Smithies Tackle) in top spot with a pole and meat catch of 84-5-0 from peg six. Team mate Alan Higgs followed with 79-2-0; third, Chris Newton (Redditch), 73-9-0.
