A SPA county councillor is set to promote pedal power as part of the Hearts First Worcester Bike Ride.
Pam Davey, councillor for Droitwich South, will sell refreshments in Vines Park, Droitwich Spa, to cyclists on their way to the finishing line on Sunday, June 6.
The ride will raise funds to support the British Heart Foundation's battle against the UK's number one killer -- heart disease.
Cllr Davey has recently taken on a new role as sustainability champion for Worcestershire County Council. She will join fellow Rotarians at Vines Park to provide the refreshments, donated by Robert Wiseman Dairies.
"I'm delighted to be involved with such a worthwhile event and look forward to welcoming people as they visit our spa town en route," said Cllr Davey.
The bike ride is being supported by TravelWise, a national travel awareness campaign which Worcestershire County Council has signed up to. TravelWise aims to encourage sensible and sustainable alternatives to the car such as walking, cycling and using public transport.
The Hearts First Worcester Bike Ride starts and finishes at Worcester Rugby Club, offering 10 and 20-mile routes through Worcestershire country lanes, taking in Droitwich Spa and two recently-opened sections of the Sustrans national cycle way.
Nicky Luff, TravelWise officer with Worcestershire County Council, said: "The council is supporting this bike ride to raise the awareness of the benefits of cycling and to help raise funds for the BHF. We'd like as many people as possible to join in and register for this bike ride."
Entry to the bike ride costs £10 for adults (£15 on the day) and £5 for under 16s (£10 on the day). All participants are asked to raise sponsorship to help fight heart disease with prizes being awarded for highest individual and team sponsorship.
