SUPER swimmers have made a splash by achieving a whole host of top honours in their best-ever season.
Members of Bromsgrove Swimming Club were in great form at the recent county and district championships, collecting 24 gold medals, 28 silver and 18 bronze in the process.
Club president Kim Edmunds said: "It's a fantastic result for a small club but it's our best season by far."
She also thanked club coaches Richard Davidson and Sue Aldridge for their efforts.
The success started in March at the Worcestershire Championships where 19 swimmers collected medals within their respective age groups. Nine of those recorded the required times to qualify for the Midland district youth championships at Coventry on Saturday, May 1.
Among the stars was Matt Hooper, crowned county junior champion at 100-metres freestyle and backstroke in March before competing in the 50m and 100m freestyle at Coventry.
Lisa Harrison, Laura Ashford, Lucie Edmunds, Claire Ashford, Simon Smith, Neil Goodman, Stuart Corbett, Steve Craner and Alison Kindon also got the times for Coventry.
Four of those swimmers then reached the finals at the district youth championships. Claire Ashford took silver in the 1,500m freestyle and fourth in the 800m freestyle, while Lisa Harrison won bronze in the 100m breaststroke. Simon Smith competed in the 100m backstroke and Laura Ashford in the 100m butterfly.
Youngsters Alice Woodyatt and Richie Edmunds will get their chance at the junior heats in June.
Bromsgrove's injury-ravaged squad also won the second round of the Nuneaton and District Junior Diddy League last Saturday.
The club gained 17 first places and 13 second places as well as 35 personal best times to beat Phoenix Youth B into the runners-up spot by 12 points. The girls U9s, U10s, U11s and U12s 4x1 freestyle and medley relay teams were all victorious, with the boys U12s also winning.
First places were also gained by Caelyn Hirschman in the U9s breaststroke and freestyle, Alice Alton (U10s butterfly), Steve Muddiman (U11s butterfly), Katy Masters (U11s freestyle), Vicky Law (U12s freestyle), Daniel Scarr (U10s freestyle, U11s breaststroke) and Charlotte Wood (U12s butterfly).
