A DULL misty day with drizzle falling didn't deter members and visitors at Throckmorton CPSC on Sunday.
The conditions made for consistent targets and, on the Skeet Layout, it was John Arnold (25/25) who made his mark with his third maximum in as many outings.
Norris Dolphin was the second maximum man as the competition panned out, while Pat Smith wasn't to be out done by her male colleagues and made sure the fairer sex had a share of the spoils.
The pressure was kept on the leading trio by Dave Barnfield, Rob Wise, Brian Smith and Cliff Hawkes who all left one target unscathed.
On the Down the Line discipline, no fewer than eight maximums were achieved.
In a red-hot competition it was John Ford who glowed brightest with a maximum from the start.
Ford's faultless score laid the challenge at the door of the other competitors and, by mid morning, both Anthony Smith and Alan Ayres had posted maximums but both using their second barrels on four occasions.
Lewis Thorner emerged from the pack to score a second faultless maximum to join Ford on the podium.
Club stalwart Frank Harrison came closest to joining the leading pair, but let a single target escape with his first barrel.
Gary Shaw pushed hard for the top but had to settle for a maximum that included two second barrel hits.
Geoff Green was the pick of the visitors with a well-crafted 25/25 = 74ex75, while Dave Barnfield, Rebecca Sealey, Brian King, Phil Smith and Ian Seabright all finished one target short.
The Sporting discipline saw Clay Target Shooting of the highest quality as a testing layout left some members struggling to reach the required standard.
The Top Gun score came from visitor Phil Smith fresh from his victory in the recent 'Sooty' shoot.
He tackled the layout with his usual calm and polished technique to finish with 47/50.
The members berth was shared by Jim Ford and John Tarplee both working hard for their rewards ending the day with a score of 44/50.
Other scores: Paul Colley 43/50; Rob Wise 42/50; Ian seabright 41/50.
It's the Frog Hall Farm Sporting Shoot tonight between 5.30 and 8pm, while there's the Royal Oak's Wyvern Trophy shoot on Sunday from 10am.
The next Home Shoot is on Sunday, May 23.
