APLANNING application has been filed to demolish Headless Cross Methodist Church and replace it with modern buildings.

I wonder whether the congregation realises how much local people like and look forward to seeing the very individual open spire of their church and how much it would be missed?

Has the congregation really considered whether they should be demolishing a building of such merit and would it not be better to retain and make the most of the very characterful street front - including the spire - while removing and replacing the hotch-potch of multi-purpose buildings behind the church?

Is this to be yet another Victorian building that we allow to be destoyed, only to regret its passing later?
