AT the April 29 meeting, the future programme and minutes of the last meeting were discussed.
Secretary Carol Smith then welcomed speaker George Hook to talk about mother of pearl.
Mr Hook's factory in Smethwick is the only manufacturer of goods made from mother of pear such as buttons, buckles and spoons.
He brought along some of the shells from north Australia and Africa, which he passed around and told the history of pearl button making.
The next meeting is tomorrow and includes a talk by Lynda Kettle entitled Life at the BBC.
