SMASHED windows and vandalised vehicles confronted staff and pupils at two Hollywood schools last week.
A major clean-up operation took place at Woodrush High School and Youth Centre in Shawhurst Lane after a destructive "rampage" at about 3am on Wednesday morning.
Headteacher Melanie Warnes said windows in the school building and the minibus had been broken and the caretaker's car was vandalised.
Nearby Coppice Primary School, also on Shawhurst Lane, suffered similar damage.
Coppice headteacher Mark Slater said vandals had broken four windows at the school, using slabs from the playground which they took to wreak more damage at the high school.
Flowers which children had planted in pots had been overturned, a plastic table was vandalised and a paper recycling bin had been set alight.
"I have never seen such appalling vandalism and wanton damage in the 13 years I have worked at the school," said Mr Slater.
"It took us ages to clean up the shattered glass before the children arrived at school."
Ms Warnes said funds for pupils' education would have to be used to supplement insurance money in order to repair damage.
She said: "This random destructiveness destroys the confidence of the community.
"As a school we have been left feeling violated and vulnerable."
Wythall beat manager Pc Mark Townsend said police were taking steps to monitor problem areas with a view to cutting antisocial behaviour.
He said: "We are urging anyone, resident or otherwise, who saw or heard anything in the early hours of Wednesday morning to call us on 0845 444888."
Two youths were arrested but police believe more were involved in the vandalism.
