A DISAPPOINTING batting display left Chainwire struggling to hold on for a Worcestershire League Division Five draw against Knighton-on-Teme.
Having been put into bat on a damp wicket, Knighton were reduced to 46-4, thanks to a good opening bowling spell from debutant Sam Beasley (3-16).
Thanks to a dogged 54 from R Cadle, Knighton recovered to 171-9 off 45 overs with their cause helped by several dropped catches.
Lee Stuart (3-37) again bowled well but Chainwire's reply did not recover from a nightmare start which reduced them to 16-4.
M Evans (3-23) and P Hipkiss (3-11) ran riot although a fifth-wicket stand of 61 between Mark Meese (33) and Stuart (44 not out) dug Chainwire out of a deep hole.
It enabled the Kidderminster outfit to take six points from a losing draw.
Knighton-on-Teme 171-9, Chainwire 103-7.
