THAT cheeky engine, Thomas, and his pal, Percy, attracted scores of youngsters to the first of Severn Valley Railway's two special May weekend events.

Thomas the Tank Engine and Percy the Green Engine, stars of book, stage and screen, shared the limelight at the Day Out With Thomas events on Saturday and Sunday, which will be repeated this weekend.

The railway's Kidderminster station is the starting point for the events, which see the two engines and the notorious "troublesome trucks" enjoying some well-practised capers under the watchful eye of The Fat Controller, Sir Topham Hatt.

Along the 18-mile line, visitors can also enjoy brake van passenger rides with Duck the Pannier Tank and her brother, Drake, at Highley and Bewdley, Punch and Judy and Zappo the Magic Clown at Arley and a bendy balloon man at Bridgnorth, where a unique Bursen 52-note street organ will provide background music.

There will also be Thomas videos on the big screen at Bewdley, a colouring competition and Thomas goodies for sale.

Main attraction will be the live steam Thomas shows which run both days at Kidderminster from 11am, with the last show at 4.10pm.

Tickets for this weekend's days out can be purchased in advance from the station, with trains departing every 50 minutes starting from Kidderminster at 9.15am.
