meeting held on Thursday began with a minute's silence in memory of Ron Coleman, founder of the society, who died recently. Stanley English then gave a precis of the man and his achievements and aspirations.
This was followed by a varied and interesting talk by Tim Porter on English Art in the Time of Simon de Montfort. The talk was illustrated and drew on sources such as Muchelney Abbey and Clarendon Palace and the Cathedrals of Wells, Salisbury and St Albans.
The next event will be an outing on May 25 to two local churches. Cost is £5, use own cars. Meet at Elmley Castle churchyard 2pm.
The next meeting will be at the Friends Meeting House in Cowl Street on June 3 at 7.30pm, when Jean Davidson will give a talk on Some Medieval Women.
Inquiries to Margaret Nilsson 01789 772943.
