SAILING: Bewdley's talented Alison Young will take on the Europa Cup and European Youth Championships in the summer.

The Wyre Forest sailor has been selected for the Great Britain laser radial youth team after her success at the National Youth Championships.

Young, who recently retained her place on the RYA national youth squad, travels to Warnermunde, Germany, and Puck, Poland, for the Europa Cup.

It will be run over three-day periods at each location from July 3 until 13.

Then she heads to Ballyholme Sailing Club in Bangor, Northern Ireland, for the European youth event which is a week-long regatta from July 23 until 30.

At the Welsh Open Youth Championships in Pwllheli, Young gained an overall third and first female after scoring a first and fourth place in the races.

The competition in north Wales was reduced to two races from six due to a lack of wind.
