CYCLING: Stourport's Chris Morris raced into third place in the Worcester St John's CC 10-mile time trial at Severn Stoke on Saturday.
On a wet and windy day, the Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club member powered against a stiff headwind on the long return leg of the course to finish in 23 minutes and one second.
It was the best club riders' result of the season and just 20 seconds behind was seventh-placed club-mate David Barnes.
John Callaghan rode well to finish 15th in 24-38 but overall winner was Stourbridge's Roger Iddles in 21-51.
Following their success on Saturday, Morris and Barnes entered the Ross-on-Wye and District CC 25-mile hilly time trial the next day.
Morris went one better to finish second in one hour 8-09 and Barnes was third in 1-8-45, behind overall winner Gavin Pardoe, of Stourbridge, in 1-4-18.
Bill Picton was 10th fastest veteran on standard time when he recorded 1-7-0 at the Veteran Time Trial Association's National 25-mile Championships in Hatfield Woodhouse on Sunday.
And Callaghan completed the Hirwaun Wheelers' 25-mile time trial at Glenneath, south Wales, in 57-51 with another Wyre Forest racer Rob Cole clocking 1-0-51.
Cole also registered 1-1-45 at the CDCLA 25-mile time trial in Etwall, Derbyshire, and Richard Pedersen smashed his personal best by a minute in 1-2-50. Overall winner was Darren Willetts, of Luk Racing.net, in 51-59.
In the latest club time trial round, Dave Wood rode around the 10-mile Great Witley course to take his first victory in the series.
Wood was the only rider to finish in under 25 minutes, an impressive 24-41.
Joe Rowe, still recovering from leg injuries after a crash in a sprint finish at the LVRC race two weeks ago, was second.
Rowe timed 25-45 and was followed in third place by John Parker in 26-28 but Morris failed to finish after suffering a puncture.
Other times: James Smith 26-33, Neil France 26-59, Pedersen 27-32, Paul Sargeant 28-16, Picton 29-01, Brian Clarke 29-12, Chirs Poole 29-15, Mick Gray 31-0, Mike Nicol 31-11, Steve Clews 31-50, Sally Clews 46-19.
