A 22-year-old man accused of causing the death of a Kidderminster teenager by dangerous driving has been remanded in custody by a judge.

The charge against James Birch alleges that he caused the death of 16-year-old Gavin Connelly, of Jubilee Drive North, Foley Park, Kidderminster, in an accident on the A456 near the Royal Forester Inn at Callow Hill, near Bewdley, on March 12.

Gavin, who would have been 17 four days after the tragedy, was one of four people thrown out of a Ford Escort after a collision with three other vehicles. The others were not seriously injured.

Miss Abigail Nixon, defending, said prosecution papers in the case had only just been received, leaving insufficient time to receive instructions from her client.

Judge Michael Mott remanded Birch, of Stanbrook Road, Tenbury Wells, in custody for a plea and directions hearing next week.
