ON Saturday I attended the Kidderminster Choral Society concert at St Mary's Church.
It was a lovely venue for a superb programme, wonderful music from the Elgar Sinfonia, an outstanding soloist, and marvellous choral singing, not least from the 10 to 18 year-old Wyre Forest Young Voices.
It was an evening spoiled only by the poor attendance.
I think it was the Young Voices I felt sorriest for. What does it teach them to be involved in such an event, at so high a standard, and to face an audience which, however enthusiastic, appeared to be outnumbered by performers?
They are the future of this significant local asset. Soon they hope to tour Poland, in a gesture towards the wider future of our young people.
Kidderminster Choral Society has enormous value to the area in a variety of ways. Fortunately, it is still strong. But that may not remain so if we, the public, are careless of it.
There is an excellent programme for the rest of this year. Use it, or risk losing it.
