WORCESTER City have released Darren Middleton and David Foy but more could follow as the explosion of ex-Football League players filters down to non-league level.
Chairman Dave Boddy says manager John Barton has an extensive 'shopping list' that could yet spell more exits over the close season.
"The explosion of players they talked about coming out of the pro game has finally filtered down to our level," said Boddy.
"The whole market place has changed dramatically and it's possible that existing players might not be at the club at the start of the season.
"John's looking at more players now than he has at any time in his five years at the club."
Barton, still struggling with a painful back, was at St George's Lane until the early hours of this morning but neither Middleton's or Foy's departure is a huge surprise.
Middleton was transfer-listed after Christmas while Foy was farmed out on loan to Halesowen Town for the final few months of the season.
Middleton, top scorer two seasons ago, made 119 appearances for the club in three years, scoring 31 goals while Foy played 32 games in two injury-plagued years at the club, starting with a cruciate injury just 10 games into his first season at City.
Boddy, however, paid tribute to the duo. "I think they were both difficult decisions," said Boddy.
"With David Foy, the injury he sustained against Tamworth 10 games into his career made things very difficult for his spell at Worcester. There's no doubt that when he came to the club with Pat Lyons and John Snape they made a big impact in midfield but when his cruciate was damaged it made his career difficult.
"With Darren Middleton it's fair to say everybody has seen the ability he possesses. At times he produces stuff you would only see in the Premiership but he needs to kickstart his career again.
"His lifestyle has changed since he first arrived at the club and was still looking to get back into the full-time game. Now he's got a settled career outside of football and now needs a clean start.
"We would like to wish them sincere thanks because both in their own ways made contributions to the club."
Foy is being linked with Moor Green and Hinckley United while Middleton is believed to be looking for a club closer to his Lichfield home.
