CRICKETERS in Wyre Forest are mourning the passing of two well-known district figures.
Les Griffin, who kept wicket for Kidderminster's second team, died on May 6, aged 85.
Vice-chairman of Cookley Cricket Club, Murray Russell, died on April 24, aged 74.
Mr Griffin worked in the carpet industry before the Second World War and spent the rest of his working life at the Ministry of Defence in Hartlebury.
He leaves a daughter, Judith, and son, Martin. A service will be held at St George's Church in Kidderminster tomorrow at 2.45pm.
Mr Russell leaves a wife, Betty. Cookley Cricket Club secretary, Richard Matthews, said: "Murray was a fine cricketer and excellent wicket-keeper, playing for the club in the seventies, after moving to the village from Birmingham.
"He was also a well respected umpire and his services were much in demand to officiate at schools tournaments."
