THE curtain came down on The Soccer Site Malvern League season on Sunday evening with the final of the Senior Cup being held at New Street, Ledbury.
Division One champions and Herefordshire Sunday Cup holders Bishops Frome were looking for a treble whilst league runners-up and holders of the Senior Cup, Oak Allstars, were their opponents.
With the sides having met three times already this season, with a victory to each side plus a draw, a close match was expected.
With the advantage of the slope, it was Oak Allstars who took the game to Bishops Frome and were on top for most of the first half forcing Bishops Frome keeper Simon Wall to make a couple of good saves.
Bishops Frome only had one real chance late on in the first half when a Matt Beale cross was pushed out by Glynn Morris straight on to the head of Chris Jefferson, who headed over from close range.
Oak Allstars started the second half well and Mark Toman was unlucky with a looping header, which landed on the top of the net. Jamie James then broke clear for Oak only for Simon Wall to make a fine save at his feet, the rebound was then hit goalwards by James, only for Sean Davies to make a goalline clearance.
Bishops Frome then began to push forward and a fierce shot from Matt Beale was beaten away by Glynn Morris. Bishops Frome took the lead when Matt Beale beat two players as he weaved his way into the area and his low shot from 10 yards gave the keeper no chance.
Oak should have equalised when Neil Gardener found himself in front of an open goal, only to put the ball wide.
Oak then had to substitute their keeper and they were grateful to him when Andy Smith made a fine save from Jason Westmacott. Smith then made an excellent save from Matt Beale, who once again had dribbled through the defence before shooting. The final whistle then went to give Bishops Frome the treble and deny the hardworking Oak Allstars, whose performance on the night went unrewarded.
Earlier in the day the destiny of the Division Two title was settled when Dynamo Ledbury entertained Madresfield. Needing a victory to overhaul Bell Inn 98 in the final game of the season, they made hard work of the game.
Dynamo took the lead in the first half with their only clear cut chance, Adam Thomas shooting into an unguarded net after a cross from the right.
In the second half Madresfield's greater physical strength began to tell and the Dynamo goal was under threat for long periods. However with five minutes remaining John Walker picked up a pass on the halfway line and outstripped the visitors' defence before shooting past the advancing keeper to give Dynamo a 2-0 victory.
The only other game on the final day was in Division One and saw visitors Club AC 30 beat Morgan Aero 8 5-2, thanks to goals from Aaron Parr and two each for Dan Heywood and Jonathon Creba, with the home sides replies coming from Mike Griffin and Mark Phillpots.
