WELLAND'S young team came so close to capping their promotion to the Premier Division with silverware from this Phipps Cup final at Worcester City's ground.
PERSHORE MANOR ROVERS 2, WELLAND ATHLETIC 0
Welland looked in command with Mark Amott's decisive runs at defence from the left and Tom Holland finding room on the right to create opportunities for Craddock and Scrivener up front.
It was against the run of play when the Pershore winger curled a shot low past the unsighted Nick Blakeway in Welland's goal.
Scrivener was then injured in a clash with the Pershore keeper and Derrington came on. An equaliser seemed certain when Holland's shot was headed high off the line. However, it was Pershore who added to their tally in the last minute of the half when a free kick was not cleared.
Welland came forward in the second half with Brendon Watson and Welland's man of the match Paul Edwards controlling the midfield and creating chances but Welland could not break down the Manor defence, where the keeper was hailed man of the match.
Welland manager Richard Coles said: "We've had a fabulous season with a final, semi-final and promotion. We probably need two or three experienced Premier players to add to the squad for our university leavers."
