THREE local schools were in the medals at the West Midlands Schools Orienteering Championships held at Severn Valley Country Park near Bridgenorth on Saturday.
First in was 11-year-old Rosemary Hartmann of the Wyche Primary School, Malvern, who took the gold in the year 6 girls' competition by a clear three minutes.
Robert Farrington, aged 15, of John Masefield High School, Ledbury, also took a gold in the Year 10 boys' competition ,a minute clear of his main rival Daniel Hartmann, 14, of The Chase, Malvern, who gained another silver to add to the one he won at the World School Championships last month.
All of them are members of Harlequins Orienteering Club.
The boys had another reason to celebrate this week as they have both been selected for summer tours, Robert Farrington to Halden in Norway and Daniel Hartmann to Glenmore, Scotland.
Anyone who would like to try this exciting adventure sport has the perfect opportunity locally next Thursday (May 20), when a summer evening event will be held at Eastnor Deer Park, starting from about 6pm.
Full details are on the Harlequins web site www.harlequins.org.uk.
