THE Malvern RFC Youth Development Section will be holding its annual Rugby World Cup tournament for 7 to 11 year olds at Spring Lane tomorrow (Saturday).
This tag rugby event is essentially for the club's mini/midi rugby players but, as in past years, the YDS is extending the invitation to local school children and the younger members of the Malvern Angels to attend.
All players are asked to be at Malvern Rugby Club by 10am so that they can be formed up into seven-a-side tag rugby teams and allocated a manager.
The managers will then take the teams through short warm-up sessions before the competition gets underway at 10.45am.
The Malvern RFC Rugby World Cup tournament is always a keenly contested event with the young players representing all the major rugby nations. However in last year's event, Iraq and Afghanistan also had teams present with both teams causing major upsets in the tournament's play-off stages.
The tournament final this year will be played in front of a big crowd as a curtain raiser to the day's main event, which features the Malvern 'Twickenham 94' squad playing a Select XV.
After the tournament final, the awards for the club's mini/midi players and the tournament's best performers will be presented.
