COLWALL'S U11 (B) team got off to a winning start in this Herefordshire Youth League match.
The outfield was lush, soft and still damp, the wicket fortunately all weather plastic.
Colwall batted first with openers Stephen Wilson and Rory Jones looking comfortable against the Eastnor attack. Jones was first out, to be replaced with his namesake, Arthur Jones. Wilson proved the anchor man of the innings and he topped scored for the day, with an invaluable 21. With boundaries scarce, in fact only one was scored in either innings, it was the good running between the wicket of the Colwall team that made the difference, a scattering of wides and no balls helped boost the score.
Rory Jones changed the game in the second over, hitting the stumps twice in a bowling spell which saw him gain three wickets for no runs.
Neil Green also took three wickets, including the dangerous Pinnell caught and bowled. Colwall's fielding was a little more alert than Eastnor's and Eastnor were not as quick to run the singles as they might have been leaving Colwall delighted as winners by thirteen runs.
Colwall U11B 69 all out.
Eastnor U11 53-7 (from 20 overs).
Next week the U11 team travels away to Bromyard hoping to maintain this excellent start.
