A HELICOPTER was 80ft away from crashing into a former nuclear power station and spreading radioactive fallout across Worcestershire, a Sunday paper has claimed.
The military Chinook chopper entered a no-fly zone around the Berkley station, in Gloucestershire, last November, the RAF Police's Defence Flying Complaints Investigation Team told the Sunday Mercury.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said a request from the pilot to touch down on the station's designated landing zone had not been cleared.
But she added that each aircraft pilot has a manual explaining how to land safely and there would have been no danger to the station.
