KIDDERMINSTER Victoria Cricket Club picked up a valuable 14 points from their Birmingham Cricket League Division One winning draw with Aston Unity.

It is not often that a team will use 10 bowlers, but acting skipper Jonathan Wright gave everyone a bowl with the exception of wicket keeper Duncan Willetts.

Another unusual sight was to see five slips and four gullies for Ted Baylis' bowling. All this to try and remove Aston's last three batsmen but it was to prove in vain.

Aston won the toss and put KVCC in. It appeared a good decision as the home team struggled to get runs, only nine coming from the first six overs. Openers Jonathan Wright and Mark Mansell had scored only 18 between them when Hussain bowled Mansell for one.

Will Gifford joined Wright and although he started cautiously, he went on to greater things. Wright opened up and by the 10th over KVCC had progressed to 31. Wright looked set for a big score, but on 41, from just 11 scoring hits, he skied a ball and Kidderminster were 63-2 in the 19th over.

It was left to Gifford to take on the attack and he made 81 with good support as Kidderminster posted 217-9.

Aston found life tough and at 41-5, thanks to two wickets apiece for Matt Friedlander and Baylis while Wood also got in on the action.

It looked then as if KVCC were going to notch up their first win of the season. Howver, Rahman and Stevenson forged a partnership of 59.

Wickets continued to fall but the final three proved elusive and they had to settle for the draw as they finished on 184-7 from their 55 overs.
