IN reference to speed cameras and, in particular, the one sited on the main A40 road at Childswickham, which is between Evesham and Broadway.

I am amazed that one has been sited in such a lonely and quiet spot.

If one is to believe all the propaganda that is put out by the police, cameras are only sited in particular black spots were there have been many accidents or deaths.

I cannot believe that this is the case in such a quiet spot as Childswickham. I am open to be proven different however.

I was unfortunately driving along this very busy road in the direction of Broadway on Tuesday, April 27 at 10.23am.

Funnily, there was no other traffic on this road either going in the same direction as me or coming the other way.

A little strange I would have thought, for a blackspot, which I presume this must be for a camera to be situated there.

However, I am told that I was doing 48mph in a 40mph limit, allowing for the 10 per cent plus a two mph discretionary allowance.

This means that I was driving at 2mph over the limit.

Obviously, I am a 69-year-old maniac.

I would like to say that I do not consider myself a danger to anyone. In my life I have driven over 3,500,000 miles, roughly over 60,000 miles per annum (49 years).

In all that time I have never had an accident.

I have had one previous speeding offence and that was for chasing after a car that had damaged another car when overtaking it.

Not a bad record for an old one!

I think I can rightly claim to being a very experienced driver and a very responsible one.

I ask if some of these cameras are nothing but another way of collecting money, especially from pensioners.
