SOME learner drivers in Worcestershire are having to wait 14 weeks to take their test, it has been revealed.
Under a Government target, candidates should not have to wait more than six weeks before sitting their test.
But, in a series of Parliamentary answers, Conservative transport spokesman Damian Green has discovered some learners at the Redditch centre - used by people across the county - have had to wait 14 weeks.
Waiting times at Worcester are seven weeks - also missing the target.
Mr Green said: "Learner drivers are being badly let down by these unacceptable delays. To have to wait up to five months for a driving test shows that the Government is hopelessly missing its target of a six-week wait.
"All this comes at time when the Government is loading extra burdens on driving instructors which may encourage experienced instructors to leave the profession."
A Driving Standards Agency spokeswoman said: "It's common knowledge that waiting times are high and we are desperately trying to reduce them.
"There is a high demand for tests, particularly in the London area and we are recruiting more examiners."
