A TREE with its roots in Shakespearean history has been rejected by Alcester conservationists.
The mulberry tree is believed to be a descendant of one planted by William Shakespeare and has been offered to the town by resident Peter Pritchard.
He is leaving his home in Church Street but hoped the historical specimen - which he was given by another resident, Shirley Coldicott - could be preserved.
He offered it to Alcester Town Council who in turn offered it to the team responsible for the running of the award-winning Arrow Local Nature Reserve.
They have turned it down because it is not a native species but it is now hoped Alcester in Bloom will find a home for it.
