Alvechurch 3
Malvern Town 2
THERE was more cup joy at the weekend as Malvern lost their second cup final in six days - this time to the Churchmen.
The Lye Meadow men must have been eager to get the Worcester Senior Urn final underway after the scheduled tie at Kidderminster Harriers Aggborough Stadium on May 5 was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
The rescheduled match was organised for an early evening kick off on Friday at the less glamorous Evesham United ground.
But despite the change in date and venue it was still a cup final and the Churchmen treated it as such.
Liam O'Shea started like lightning after latching on to a bad keeping error to put Alvechurch 1-0 up after eight minutes.
An injury to Brett Fitzpatrick forced him off the pitch before Malvern equalised through Scott Morris on 23.
Church went 2-1 up before half time, Keith Rostill scoring from the spot with his 100th goal for the club after a handball.
And the Churchmen went 3-1 up early in the second half through O'Shea's second of the game.
Malvern pulled one back on 72 minutes through Gary Smith but the Church hung on for the last ten minutes to win themselves some silverware this season.
