STUDENTS at Christopher Whitehead High School enjoyed a day of activities to take citizenship outside the classroom.
Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in a range of events to experience other cultures and promote out-of-school learning yesterday.
Eleven and 12-year-old pupils took part in a multi-cultural day, which included a Bhangra workshop, Shushinkai Karate lessons and Bollywood-style singing and dancing.
There was also African drumming, cookery from around the world and henna hand-painting.
"This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience positive, fun aspects of other cultures and so promote harmony and tolerance," said Indy Bassan, citizenship co-ordinator at the school.
Year 8 pupils went on a trip to the West Midland Safari park to study conservation, while Year 9 had a choice between Cheddar Gorge, The Black Country Museum or a river study.
David Thompson, deputy head at the school, said: "All the trips had, at their core, the idea of bringing learning about citizenship out of the classroom and making the subject relevant and exciting."
