A RECORD number of entries and perfect weather made Worcester Triathlon Club's annual Malvern Sprint Race a scorching success.
And with local competitors Ruth Heatley and Phil Parsons coming second overall, it proved a good day for the hosts.
Ros Townsend-Hope in the age 50-59 category and Les Bailey (60-69) also enjoyed successful races for Worcester, winning their age groups.
The race, held in the beautiful setting of the Malvern College, consisted of a 400m pool swim, 25km bike around a hilly, twisting course and finally a 5km multi-terrain run.
There were just under 200 entries for the race with 186 finishers who coped with the 70 degree plus temperature during the latter part of the morning.
Heatley was first out at 9.30am for Worcester Tri Club and she did a very satisfactory race to finish second overall lady in a time of 1.18.39.
She was also the fastest lady vet (40 plus) by over eight minutes.
New club member Phil Parsons did a storming race to come second overall male in a time of 1.07.19.
His swim time of 5.48 was one of the fastest and this was coupled with good bike and run times.
Overall male winner was Paul Rogers of Black Country Tri Club in 1.04.05 and the lady winner was Samantha Kennedy in 1.18.02.
Other Club category winners were: 1 Ros Townsend-Hope (50-59) 1.28.59; 1 Les Bailey (60-69) 1.20.44.

The children's race proved very popular with over 40 entries. The race consisted of a 100metre swim followed by a 800 metre run around the Malvern College grounds.
Category winners were: eight-year-old Tegan Parsons; nine-year-olds Sean Cuthwaite and George Parsons; 10-year-olds Amber Watson and Chris Watonger; 11-year-old Odge Davies; 12-year-old Jacob Turner; 13-year-old Reece Davie and 14-year-old Richard Istead.
