LITTLE monkeys can get into the groove at new music classes which are being launched in Bromsgrove and Droitwich Spa.

Monkey Music gives tots, aged between six months and four years, the opportunity to sing, play instruments and meet other little ones.

The classes will run at the Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre, in Briar Mill, on Tuesdays and at the Dolphin Centre, in School Drive, every Wednesday.

They are led by Worcester woman Kari Vaughan, along with the help of a pink and orange monkey called Monty.

Jane Williams has a two-year-old daughter who attends a class in their hometown of Malvern. "The classes have really calmed her down," said Jane. "And the children respond really well to what Monty the Monkey does."

The 30-minute sessions start with a hello song then the children have the chance to get rid of excess energy by hammering it out on a musical instrument. They then might do a little marching, before singing a song goodbye.

"It's also a great opportunity for mums to meet other mums, particularly those with very young children, who might feel isolated in the home," she added.

Monkey Music was set up in London in 1998 and, because of its popularity, has spread across the country. The aim of the sessions is to introduce music to very young children in a way they can understand and enjoy.

Children are divided into groups of tots of the same age.
