I AGREE entirely with what D Ingram (You Say Tuesday, May 4) has to say regarding a legal system that continually persecutes motorists simply because they are an easy target.
Driving these days has become a lottery. Indeed, for the authorities, it is a guaranteed win every day, with the amount of motorists who, by occasionally and inadvertently creeping over the designated limits, potentially generate large sums of ready cash.
Like D Ingram, I do not condone the maniacs who travel at speeds far in excess of those laid down. We need to have safe roads, both to drive on and to walk along.
We also need, however, to reintroduce some element of common sense here.
We know the Government would love to reduce the amount of road traffic but to "point" people off the road is not the way to go about it. It would probably result in more illegal drivers.
Normal people should be able to drive on our roads without being almost paranoid about it and the ruthless profiteering that goes on under the name of Road Safety be exposed for what it is and outlawed.
