TWO young martial artists from Bromsgrove have fought of competition from across the Midlands to land student of the year titles.
Jack Simpson and Kasey Corbett picked up the prestigious awards for their effort at the British Free Fighting Academy, in Aston Fields.
Both train under chief instructor Andy Hopwood, learning the total self-defence system.
Jack, aged 15, has been training in the BFFA's adult classes a year but his enthusiasm and commitment to regular training has seen him attain his title above all other adult BFFA students.
Kasey, aged 10, won the same award in the junior section. She has trained at least twice a week for the last 12 months.
Andy Hopwood said: "Jack has got something special. He's not the biggest lad in the world and it takes a lot of mental strength and tenacity to train with people who are older and bigger than you.
"Kasey has made terrific progress, passing five gradings in the last 12 months."
The BFFA, based at Fighting Fit, in New Road, is also starting a self-defence class for ladies.
A six-week course is currently running on Mondays and Wednesday between 6.45pm and 7.45pm. For details, call 01527 578243.
