A GREENLANDS woman has expressed concern over the number of dying, dead and decaying rabbits she has seen around Arrow Valley Park.
Christine Caswell said she had spotted rotting rabbit carcasses near to the children's play area and she now wants something done about it.
Mrs Caswell, of Studley Road, believes the rabbits had the fatal and highly contagious disease Myxomatosis.
She said: "When we went to the park last weekend we noticed some rabbits just sitting there and they didn't run away. There were decaying rabbit carcasses too."
Myxomatosis is a virus which leads to puffy, fluid swelling around the rabbit's head, face and body and will eventually cause blindness.
The disease, which can kill a rabbit in days, is spread by blood-sucking insects.
Mrs Caswell said she had contacted environmental health and the RSPCA, who said if she saw a diseased rabbit she could take it to the vets.
"I have a four-year-old granddaughter and I can't take her down there now as it is too distressing," she added.
Redditch Council's visitor attraction manager Liz Stuffins said: "We're not aware of a problem affecting the rabbit population at Arrow Valley Park.
"We'll continue to monitor the situation and maintain the park and will contact environmental health or Defra if a problem arises."
