CONTAMINATION stickers on recycling bags are being stepped up to warn householders to think carefully about what they put out for Worcester's kerbside collection.
Although the Worcester City Council initiative has been a resounding success since it started a year ago, tip crews are having to reject a number of the sacks because of their unacceptable or dangerous content.
More contamination stickers are having to be issued in a bid to persuade householders to re-sort their rubbish, while reminding them of the do's and don'ts.
Assistant environmental protection officer Hannah Phoenix said processors at the material reclamation facility at Hill and Moor near Evesham were experiencing real problems.
"There is some confusion over what is and what isn't acceptable and in the rush to recycle, people sometimes forget," she said.
She said the chief culprit was glass - which should be taken to a bottle bank - and bottle tops - which should be removed and thrown away. Fake foil, used for crisp packets and cat food pouches, was also highlighted as a problem area.
