Rain will quite literally pour on to actor Hugh Duck when he takes to the stage at the Greig Hall in Alcester for the legendary scene from Singing in the Rain.
Alcester Amateur Operatic Society felt anything less than real thing would spoil the effect of one of the greatest scenes of all time - Don Lockwood tap-dancing in the street.Singing in the Rain parodies that momentous and painful period in Hollywood movie history when talkies took over from silent pictures.
Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are the brightest stars at Monumental Studios but, while Lockwood easily makes the change to talkies, Lamont's squeaky sharp voice is potentially disastrous. Fortunately, aspiring actress Kathy Snelden pops out of a giant cake and provides a dubbing service for Lina and a love interest for Don.
The first attempt at a sound film is disastrous but, when it is turned into a musical, Kathy is revealed as the true star and Lina is hilariously disgraced.
The show runs from tonight to Saturday and tickets are available from Guys Menswear in Alcester or Cynthia Hill on 01789 763446.
